The Hongshan Archaeological Site protects an area of 7.5 sq km. It is considered the cradle of Wu culture and houses a tomb complex from the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) and Warring States Period (475-221 BC). The important historical site sits on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and was listed among China's Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries of 2004.
The Hongshan Site Museum is the only national archaeological park in Jiangsu province. It houses a collection of relics unearthed from the Hongshan Tomb Complex that demonstrate the celadon techniques using during those periods. Miniature jade engravings, burial artifacts, and relics related to Wu and Yue rites and music are also on display.
